Tesla’s Robotaxi service has just made a significant expansion, now covering the entire Austin metropolitan area. This expansion, which officially went live at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, more than doubles the previous operating zone. The geofence now includes surrounding areas such as Pflugerville and Manor, as well as access to major highways like Interstate 35.
Ashok Elluswamy, Tesla’s Vice-President of AI Software, took to X to confirm the rollout, stating that the unsupervised service is now available across the greater Austin region. The autonomous service initially launched in Austin on June 22, 2025, with supervised rides and safety drivers. Transitioning to unsupervised rides in limited sections of the city on January 22, 2026, Tesla’s frequent software updates and expanding fleet of vehicles have allowed the company to scale up operations to this latest phase.
With this expansion, Austin now ranks as the third-largest unsupervised autonomous driving zone in the United States. Access to the service remains invite-only as Tesla continues to gather safety data. Despite this, no major incidents have been reported in the region since the pilot program began.

The company’s continued focus on safety and innovation is sure to drive the success of its Robotaxi service in the future.
