SpaceX has recently announced a delay in the 12th flight test of the Starship, originally scheduled for today. The launch has been rescheduled for Thursday, May 21, after being pushed from tomorrow to allow for technical preparations and testing of the Starship and its ground systems.
Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX, is known for his presence at major Starship launch events, and Flight 12 Starship is no exception. This launch marks the first V3 generation of the upper-stage spacecraft and the Super Heavy rocket booster.
Preparations for the Flight 12 Starship launch are currently underway at SpaceX’s Starbase launch site in Texas. Booster 19 and Ship 39 have been transported to the site and mounted on the orbital launch mount (OLM) in preparation for the launch.
A fleet of Tesla Cybertruck electric pickup trucks is seen escorting Ship 39 from the production area to the launch site, showcasing the versatility of the Cybertruck in supporting launch-site operations.
SpaceX has conducted major pre-flight tests on both the Super Heavy Booster 19 and Ship 39. Booster 19 underwent a full-duration, full-thrust static fire test, marking the second test with all 33 engines installed. Ship 39 also underwent a 6-engine static fire test in April, following three consecutive cryogenic pressure-proof tests in March.
