Tesla has recently announced a rescheduled delivery event for its highly anticipated Model S and Model X Signature Edition vehicles, following a sudden postponement earlier this month. The event is now set to take place on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at the Tesla factory in Fremont, California.
The decision to reschedule the event came after frustration among owners, including Brooks Weisblat of DragTimes, who experienced significant travel losses due to the abrupt change in the original May 12 date. The limited Signature Edition run, consisting of only 350 units globally (250 Model S and 100 Model X units in a six-seat configuration), marks the end of an era for Tesla’s flagship vehicles as the company prepares to transition its Fremont production lines for Optimus robot manufacturing.
These final flagships are equipped with the powerful 1,020-horsepower Plaid powertrain and boast exclusive features such as Garnet Red paint, gold Tesla badging, and gold Plaid accents. The interiors are luxuriously finished in white Alcantara with gold piping and come with numbered dashboard plates to signify their place in the production sequence.
Priced at $159,420 USD, these collector’s items come with a $35,000 premium over standard Plaid inventory. The price includes the Luxe Package, which offers Full Self-Driving Supervised, free lifetime Supercharging, and premium connectivity. The Model S variant comes with 21-inch Velarium wheels and carbon ceramic brakes with gold calipers, while the Model X features 22-inch Machina wheels.
To maintain exclusivity in the market, buyers are required to sign a one-year no-resale agreement, giving Tesla the first right of refusal if the owner decides to sell the vehicle. Customers must register online to confirm their attendance for the new May 20 date and will receive a unique QR code ticket via email, which is necessary for entry into the Fremont facility for the delivery event.
One possible reason for the delay in the event could be attributed to Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s upcoming trip to China with a tech delegation invited by President Donald Trump, scheduled for May 14. With the tight turnaround, Musk may not be able to be present at both events simultaneously given the time difference.
Overall, the rescheduled Model S and Model X Signature Edition delivery event promises an exclusive and unforgettable experience for lucky owners and enthusiasts alike, as Tesla bids farewell to its flagship vehicles in a grand finale celebration.
