Hyundai has recently revealed its latest in-vehicle infotainment system, Pleos Connect, signaling a significant shift towards software-defined vehicles for the company. Scheduled to make its debut in May on the new Grandeur model in South Korea, the system will then be gradually rolled out globally.
The design of the interface focuses on a minimalist aesthetic, featuring a large central widescreen display along with a slimmer screen positioned in front of the driver. Developed by Hyundai’s global UX studios, the interface aims to be more intuitive for users. However, some keen-eyed observers have noted that the layout bears a striking resemblance to Tesla’s user interface. From the clean lines and card-based navigation to the 3D environment renderings, the visual language of Pleos Connect closely resembles the design popularized by Tesla.
In addition to its sleek design, the new system boasts several technical upgrades aimed at enhancing the driving experience. One notable feature is the Gleo AI voice assistant, powered by a robust language model capable of handling complex commands such as adjusting climate settings or finding local businesses with a single voice prompt. The integration of an App Market allows drivers to access popular apps like YouTube, Spotify, and TikTok directly on the dashboard without the need for a smartphone connection.
Furthermore, the navigation system has been revamped to offer a modular interface that enables drivers to customize their display layout or use a split-screen mode for multitasking. Similar to smartphones, the vehicle will receive over-the-air software updates to introduce new features and enhance performance over time. Following its initial launch in Korea, the technology will be introduced in Europe, with the IONIQ 3 expected to be the first model to feature the new software.
Hyundai has ambitious plans to implement Pleos Connect in 20 million vehicles across its Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis brands by 2030. To support this growth, the company is launching Pleos Playground, an open ecosystem that provides developers with the necessary tools to create innovative in-car services.
With its cutting-edge technology and user-friendly interface, Hyundai’s Pleos Connect system is poised to redefine the driving experience for millions of consumers worldwide. Stay tuned for the global rollout of this groundbreaking infotainment system in the coming months.
