Tesla Introduces Supercharger for Businesses Calculator
Tesla has launched a new financial calculator as part of its Supercharger for Business program to provide transparency and simplicity in the commercial charging industry. The calculator allows potential commercial hosts to estimate upfront costs, potential revenue, and payback timelines for building a charging hub.
Enhancing Transparency
Previously, the costs and return-on-investment metrics of the Supercharger for Business program were kept confidential. Tesla has now made its pricing public to empower property owners to make informed decisions before signing contracts.
Functionality of the Financial Calculator
The calculator, available on the Supercharger for Business portal, enables users to customize variables such as the number of Supercharger stalls, electricity supply costs, consumer billing rates, and expected site utilization. It provides estimated hardware purchase prices and projected return-on-investment timelines based on these inputs.
Cost and Revenue Sharing
Businesses looking to add Superchargers face significant costs, with a 4-stall setup costing $250,000 before installation. Tesla charges a flat fee of $0.10 per kWh for revenue-generating sites, covering software management, payment processing, maintenance, updates, and navigation system integration.
Driving Charging Clarity
With the new financial calculator and transparent pricing model, Tesla aims to accelerate investments in commercial charging infrastructure. Property owners can now see the potential profitability of hosting Superchargers, making it a viable revenue stream for hotels, grocery stores, and office parks.
This initiative marks a significant step towards Tesla’s goal of establishing ubiquitous global charging infrastructure.
