Tesla has recently introduced its advanced AI assistant Grok to vehicles in Australia and New Zealand, offering a significant upgrade for local Tesla owners. The rollout of Grok in these regions follows its successful deployment in Europe earlier this month.
On February 24, 2026, Tesla released an over-the-air software update (version 2026.2.6.1 or similar) to bring Grok to cars in Australia and New Zealand. The phased rollout will initially target vehicles equipped with Hardware 3 (HW3) and AMD Ryzen processors (MCU3 infotainment systems), with newer Hardware 4 (HW4) vehicles expected to receive the update in the near future.
Developed by xAI, Grok serves as a conversational in-car assistant that enables drivers to ask questions and receive real-time information. It also supports natural-language navigation commands, allowing users to add or edit destinations, search for nearby locations like restaurants or Superchargers, and plan routes hands-free. This personalized assistant offers customizable personalities and voices, making it a more intuitive and interactive guide compared to traditional voice systems.
To access Grok, vehicles must have an AMD processor, software version 2025.26 or later, and either Premium Connectivity or an active Wi-Fi connection. The assistant is currently in beta and continues Tesla’s efforts to expand Grok internationally, following launches in North America and Europe.
Tesla owners in Australia and New Zealand can expect to receive update notifications through the Tesla app as the deployment progresses in waves. This integration of cutting-edge AI directly into the driving experience Down Under demonstrates Tesla’s commitment to enhancing the user experience for its customers worldwide.
