The Tesla Model Y is gearing up for its first major update, as spy shots of the refreshed model undergoing testing on public roads have surfaced. Following in the footsteps of the refreshed Model 3, which debuted in 2023, the updated 2026 Tesla Model Y is set to hit the market in the spring of 2025.
Internally known as Juniper, the refreshed Model Y marks a significant overhaul for the model since its initial release in 2020. The visual updates are expected to mirror those of the Model 3 Highland, with a new split headlight design and updated front and rear ends. The camouflage hints at new wheel designs accompanying the refresh.
The interior of the Model Y is also getting a makeover, with upgraded materials, ambient lighting, cooled front seats, heated seats front and rear, and an 8.0-inch rear display for climate and entertainment functions. The dashboard design is expected to remain consistent, but with a larger 15.4-inch touchscreen replacing the current 15.0-inch unit, consolidating all vehicle controls. The removal of stalks, such as the gear selector and turn signal stalk, will align the Model Y with the Model 3.
Similar to the Model 3 Highland, the Juniper Model Y is likely to feature acoustic glass for reduced road and wind noise, as well as an available 17-speaker audio system with two subwoofers and two amplifiers. The suspension updates introduced with the Model 3 Highland are expected to enhance the comfort and handling of the Model Y.
The current Model Y lineup includes single-motor rear-wheel-drive Long Range, dual-motor all-wheel-drive Long Range, and dual-motor all-wheel-drive Performance powertrains. While Tesla doesn’t disclose power output figures, the 0-60 mph times range from 6.5 to 3.5 seconds.
With the Juniper update, the Tesla Model Y is set to raise the bar in terms of performance, comfort, and technology, solidifying its position as a top contender in the electric vehicle market. Stay tuned for more updates as the release date approaches.
