The 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV Trail Boss has been making waves in the electric vehicle market due to its impressive range despite its off-road features. With all-terrain tires and a two-inch suspension lift, many were surprised to learn that the Trail Boss has the same 478-mile EPA rating as the Silverado EV LT trim, which is more road-oriented.
To put the off-road-oriented electric pickup to the test, Out of Spec Testing conducted a real-world 70 miles per hour range test. The results were quite impressive. With a fully charged 205-kilowatt-hour battery, recommended tire pressure, and climate control set between 68 and 72 degrees, the Silverado EV Trail Boss estimated it could go 463 miles on a full charge.
During the test, the electric truck traveled 106 miles at 71 mph (70 mph on the GPS) before consuming 25% of its battery. By the time it reached 50% state of charge, the truck had traveled 211 miles, achieving an average energy efficiency of 2.1 miles/kWh. As the battery depleted further, the efficiency dropped to 2 miles/kWh at 25% state of charge, and the first warning to plug in appeared at 30 miles remaining (7% SoC).
Even as the estimated range dropped below 5 miles and Turtle Mode kicked in, the truck was still able to maintain 70 mph, albeit without cruise control. Despite hitting 0% battery level, the Silverado EV Trail Boss continued to travel at 70 mph, albeit with reduced power output. The test concluded after 454 miles when the EV could no longer accelerate to 70 mph.
Although the result fell 24 miles short of the EPA rating, the performance of the Silverado EV Trail Boss during the range test was still impressive. For a large and heavy vehicle equipped with 35-inch Goodyear all-terrain tires, maintaining a high speed for such a long distance is no small feat. The test also revealed that even after hitting 0% state of charge, the truck was able to maintain 70 mph for an additional 50 miles, providing a significant buffer in emergency situations.
Overall, the 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV Trail Boss has proven to be a capable and long-range electric pickup, showcasing the advancements in electric vehicle technology and performance in the modern automotive market.
